"I am part of a network where musicians post their project on the web, and someone else within the network can download and add their 'touch' to it. It's a pretty cool project but when I had dial up, no one would send me projects because I was taking too long to get or worse to upload them. I almost canceled my membership because of that. FALSE. Our service isn't a string of Christmas lights. Customer radios and signal repeaters are completely separate pieces of equipment. If one customer goes down, it doesn't affect anyone around him.Myth #2: Speeds will slow to dialup rates if everyone uses the system
FALSE. This is the standard "Shared Bandwidth" argument similar to what DSL providers use against cable broadband. In fact, the simple truth is that ALL Internet Service Providers operate on a shared bandwidth system. Unless you have a direct T1 or better connection straight to your house, you are sharing the same data pipe with other customers. Whether that data pipe is shared in the neighborhood or in the server room doesn't matter. We take steps to ensure that our radios don't get overloaded. We add repeaters to each neigborhood as needed to ensure that all customers always get the maximum throuput.
